Staff Spotlight - February 8

by Michele Heinen

February 08, 2010

Each week we will be doing a staff spotlight featuring a staff member from both Nemaha Valley Elementary and Middle School and from Nemaha Valley High School. Every Monday a new set of staff members will be featured on the page. We will be asking every staff member the same set of questions.

Nikki Honeyman
1. What is your job in the district?
I am the Middle School Social Studies Teacher
.

2.  How long have you worked for the district?
This is my 4th year with USD 442.

3.     What is your favorite part about your job?
Obviously I love working with kids or I wouldn't be a teacher.  I do not only enjoy teaching them, but I also enjoy getting to know them.  At least once a day my students make me chuckle because of something they say or do - I love that.

4.    What is your most memorable moment from work?
I have two memorable moments from work.  The first one is the fire, it was my first year at NVJH and I just couldn't believe this was happening.  After the fire, I was reminded why I live in Seneca, the whole community pulled together to make sure the school was taken care of.  My second memorable moment was moving into NVEMS.  After two years of being in the mobiles I was ready for a permanent location and seriously how often do you get to work in a brand new building.

5.    Who is your favorite sports team?
Besides the Raiders, my favorite sports team is the KU Jayhawks.

6.    What is your favorite restaurant?
Besides the fantastic Seneca restaurants, my favorite restaurant is the Brick Oven.

7.    Give us one piece of advice for the students in our district…
The advice that I would give students, is to remember the acronym YOGOWYPI - You Only Get Out What You Put In.  If you are involved in your education and involved in school activities you will be greatly rewarded.
