NV Students to Travel to New York City

Along with Michael Hill, NV Art Teacher, eleven Nemaha Valley High School students will be traveling to New York City June 10-15, 2010.

The students will be traveling with Smithsonian Student Travel, an educational travel company, providing student tours to various locations around the United States. As part of the tour the students will visit The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street, Trinity Church, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Grand Central Station, Rockafeller Center, Times Square and the Empire State Building.

The tour is a combination of visual arts and performing arts opportunities and will include an improv acting workshop as well as tours of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA as it is known in New York.

The students will stay in Mid-town Manhattan and travel via the subway system.

Sophmore, Emily Suther says “I think it’s going to be very education to get out and see more of the world.” Since the tour is based within the city students will be fully immersed in the diverse cultures of New York’s various neighborhoods.

“This is the fourth student tour I’ve lead with Smithsonian and they do a fantastic job of providing excellent opportunities for the students to learn,” said Michael Hill, NV art teacher.
The students have been raising money for the trip through various service projects and will continue through the coming months. Keep your eyes open for opportunities to help the students raise the money to go on the trip.
